Hersheypark Guide: Wildcat’s Revenge, Candymonium and One-Day Plan

Hersheypark is one of the most complete traditional amusement parks in the United States. In 2026 it offers more than 70 rides, 15 coasters, The Boardwalk water park and an 11-acre North American wildlife park, giving one admission far more variety than a coaster list alone suggests.

The modern headline rides are excellent: Wildcat’s Revenge delivers a hybrid-coaster experience, Candymonium provides a 210-foot hypercoaster, Storm Runner launches to 72 mph in two seconds and Skyrush adds another intense airtime option. Families can then shift to classic rides, water attractions and ZooAmerica without leaving the destination.

Quick planning summary

LocationHershey, Pennsylvania, USA
Recommended time1 full day; 2 days recommended if you want the water park, ZooAmerica and a relaxed coaster pace
Best forroller coasters, families, chocolate-themed trips, water rides and Pennsylvania road trips
Main areasChocolatetown, The Hollow, Pioneer Frontier, Midway America, The Boardwalk water park and the connected ZooAmerica area

Check the official Hersheypark website shortly before travel for current opening hours, ride closures, ticket products and accessibility rules. Major parks change operations frequently, so the official app or website should always override an older itinerary.

What to prioritise

Wildcat’s Revenge

Wildcat’s Revenge is the 140-foot hybrid coaster with an 82-degree drop, four inversions and a top speed of 62 mph. Treat it as a first-tier priority and ride earlier if weather looks uncertain.

Candymonium

Candymonium is the 210-foot hypercoaster in Chocolatetown reaching 76 mph. Its location near the front makes it tempting at opening, but compare the queue with the value of reaching a deeper attraction first.

Storm Runner

Storm Runner is the hydraulic-launch coaster that accelerates from 0 to 72 mph in two seconds. It is a short but intense ride and deserves priority when operating because weather can affect it.

Skyrush and Great Bear

Skyrush and Great Bear is two major thrill coasters that add very different airtime and inverted experiences. Use them as part of a geographic cluster around The Hollow rather than making repeated trips across the park.

The Boardwalk at Hersheypark

The Boardwalk at Hersheypark is the included seasonal water park with slides, wave pool and water-coaster attractions. On hot summer days it can consume several hours, so decide in advance whether this is a coaster day or a combined amusement-and-water day.

ZooAmerica

ZooAmerica is the connected North American wildlife park included with qualifying Hersheypark admission through the park entrance. It is a useful lower-intensity option and a major reason families may prefer two days.

A realistic one-day plan

Opening to late morning

Start with Wildcat’s Revenge, Storm Runner or another weather-sensitive coaster rather than automatically riding Candymonium at the entrance. Hersheypark is large enough that front-loading the deeper priorities can save substantial time.

The first ninety minutes are usually the easiest time to protect the hardest attraction. Decide your first target before reaching the gate, measure children in advance and avoid spending the opening rush on shopping or a long breakfast unless that is genuinely one of the reasons for the visit. If a headline ride is temporarily unavailable, move to the next priority rather than waiting outside indefinitely.

Midday

Use lunch, ZooAmerica or water-park time according to the season. If The Boardwalk is part of the plan, change clothes and treat it as a dedicated block rather than walking back and forth between wet and dry attractions repeatedly.

Midday is where many ambitious itineraries become unrealistic. Heat, hunger, walking and constant decisions slow a group more than the app suggests. A planned meal, indoor attraction, animal area or show can preserve enough energy to make the late afternoon far more productive.

Afternoon

Complete the remaining coaster clusters and use Fast Track selectively if purchased. Candymonium can work well later in the day if the morning entrance rush has dispersed. Families should leave enough time for classic rides and lower-height attractions.

Use live wait information, but compare any queue saving with the walking required to reach the attraction. A fifteen-minute improvement on the opposite side of a large park may not be a real saving once travel time and fatigue are included. Cluster nearby rides whenever possible.

Evening

Night rides on major coasters can be excellent, especially during Halloween operations when selected coasters run in darkness. Check the operating calendar because not every ride is available in every seasonal period.

Before the final hour, check actual closing time, last attraction admissions and transport. Save one flexible favourite for a late repeat, but complete every true must-do before technical downtime, weather or an early queue closure can remove the opportunity.

Tickets, reservations and fast-track options

Hersheypark sells seasonal admission and Fast Track products, with The Boardwalk and ZooAmerica access included under specific ticket conditions. Attraction availability varies by season and temperature, so a winter or Halloween ticket does not guarantee the full summer ride lineup.

Plan your visit and check admission

Check current opening dates, admission rules and ticket options on the official visitor website before travelling.

A premium queue product is valuable only when it solves a real problem. List the attractions your group considers essential, confirm which are included, then compare the upgrade price with realistic standby waits. Families with mixed heights should be especially cautious about buying the same product for everyone.

Food, water and breaks

Chocolate-themed snacks are part of the brand, but the best touring strategy still uses off-peak meal times. If you want a longer meal or Hershey’s Chocolate World experience, place it outside the most valuable morning coaster hours.

Carry water and plan at least one proper pause. Theme-park fatigue is cumulative, and a group that has been walking and standing for six hours can lose more time late in the day than it would have lost by taking a thirty-minute break earlier.

Getting there

Hershey is best reached by car for most visitors and fits well into Pennsylvania or Mid-Atlantic road trips. Parking and the approach to the entrance can be busy on summer weekends and major event nights.

Calculate the journey to the turnstile, not merely to the resort entrance. Parking, security, station transfers and shuttles can add substantial time. For rope drop, work backwards from the moment you want to be physically inside the park.

Where to stay

The Hotel Hershey, Hershey Lodge and Hersheypark Camping Resort offer official-resort benefits, while independent hotels in Hershey and Harrisburg can be cheaper. A two-day stay is particularly valuable if you want both the amusement park and water park without rushing.

Find your place to stay

Compare hotels and other accommodation on Booking.com. Check the location, travel time and cancellation conditions before you book.

Find hotels on Booking.com

The best hotel depends on the entire trip. An official or nearby property can justify a higher rate when it adds early access or removes a difficult commute. A cheaper hotel farther away can be better when room size, parking and a wider road-trip route matter more.

Best time to visit

Spring and autumn operations can be weather-sensitive. Hersheypark publishes temperature and wind thresholds that may affect specific rides, while summer provides the fullest water-park experience. Halloween and Christmas programmes have their own attraction availability.

Crowd calendars are only broad guidance. Public holidays, school breaks, seasonal events, maintenance and the opening of a new attraction can change the experience more than a historic crowd score. Build a flexible plan rather than searching for a supposedly empty day.

Visiting with children

The park’s height system is organised around Hershey candy categories, making pre-trip planning easy once you measure children. There are enough family rides, water attractions and animal experiences to keep younger guests busy while older riders tackle the aggressive coasters.

Measure children before travel when important rides have published minimum heights. Height eligibility is not the same as emotional readiness: darkness, loud effects, launches, inversions and large drops can matter more than a few centimetres.

Accessibility and motion sensitivity

Ride accessibility varies widely, and Hersheypark publishes detailed rider-safety information. Weather is also an accessibility factor because certain rides have strict operating thresholds. Check the app and individual attraction pages on the day.

Guests who are sensitive to motion should distinguish between spinning, screen-based simulators, drop rides and conventional roller coasters. Some visually intense attractions can be more difficult than faster outdoor rides. Official attraction-specific guidance is the best starting point.

How many days do you need?

For a first visit, 1 full day; 2 days recommended if you want the water park, ZooAmerica and a relaxed coaster pace is the realistic starting point. A second day becomes much more valuable when the park is the main purpose of the trip, when weather or technical downtime could remove headline rides, or when children need a slower rhythm.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Arriving at the published opening time instead of before it. Parking, security and entry procedures can put you behind the first wave.
  • Ignoring height restrictions until the queue entrance. Check them at home and prepare nearby alternatives.
  • Crossing the park repeatedly for small wait-time changes. A geographic route usually saves more energy.
  • Buying premium queue access without checking inclusions. The most expensive product is not automatically the best fit.
  • Leaving every must-do attraction until late afternoon. Weather, maintenance or early queue closures can remove the opportunity.

How it fits into a wider theme-park trip

For useful comparisons already published on Visit Theme Parks, see Cedar Point guide and Six Flags Great Adventure guide. Comparing nearby parks before buying multi-day tickets is often the easiest way to decide whether another day adds a genuinely different experience.

Is it worth prioritising?

Hersheypark deserves cornerstone coverage because it combines one of the Northeast’s deepest coaster lineups with water attractions, animals and a strong family identity in a single admission.

The best first visit is not necessarily the day with the highest ride count. Protect the attractions that motivated the trip, keep the route logical and leave enough flexibility for weather, temporary closures and the unscheduled moments that make a major park memorable.
